Jim Carreys by Derek Eads

"Illustrator Derek Eads has been rapidly garnering himself recognition across the Internet with his humorous and decidedly accurate drawings of celebrities from all facets of the pop culture world. Taking actors’ and actresses’ characters and reframing their iconic outfits or signature style, Eads draws on their recognisable features. Here we asked him to do the same for our two Archive Icons – Gwen Stefani and Madonna – blessing them with his own unique take on their long-standing pop careers. For the almighty, all reigning, ‘Queen of Pop’, it was about starting at the beginning. "I love early Madonna, the first few of this series were a lot of fun to draw. A League of Their Own is definitely a personal favourite," says the illustrator. When it came to Gwen, Eads went right back through both her and No Doubt’s entire discography, mining as much visual inspiration as he could. "I watched a lot of music videos, performances from each year, both solo and No Doubt. There really could have been a lot more looks but I wanted to keep it to the styles that were immediately recognizable." - District MTV
